Top 10 accessible holidays worldwide, all year round

Travel is different for everyone and accessible holidays are unlikely to cross your mind unless you or your loved ones require them. I am always keen to be inclusive within my work, that is why I have put together a selection of different places around the world for accessible holidays.

With Can Be Done, the UK tour operator specialising in bespoke itineraries for disabled travellers, I have put together different accessible holidays that can be undertaken each month of the year.

February to March – Tenerife

Banish the winter blues as spring slowly returns here in the UK. Its location off the west coast of Africa, so Tenerife enjoys a mild year round climate with March the perfect time to spend a week in some soft sun. There are plenty of accommodation options to choose from such as bungalows in Playa de Las Americas or five-star hotels in Costa Adeje.

April – Egypt

Experience an accessible Nile cruise between Luxor and Aswan. You can choose from three, four or seven-night cruises with the opportunity to add extra nights in Luxor or Cairo with accessible shore excursions.

May – USA

New York, New York. Visit one of the world’s most exciting cities on a four-night break. See, up close and personal, the Statue of Liberty, Broadway, Central Park and the Empire State Building, but don’t forget to leave time for some retail therapy.

June – Portugal

City culture or sandy beaches, this country has it all. Facing the Atlantic, Portugal offers Lisbon for city culture or alternatively, if relaxation is the order of the day, the Algarve’s sandy beaches are perfect for a long holiday.

July – Canada

The twin allure of Toronto and Niagara Falls is just one of countless holiday options available in Canada. Niagara Falls has accessible excursions that include a boat ride and a visit to a local winery.  Meanwhile, the rest of the country is easily explored on a self-drive trip.

August – Ireland

Ireland is so easy to get to with flights taking less time than a train between London and Birmingham. Taking the ferry and self-driving is also an option. You can choose from Dublin or Cork for an easy weekend city break.

September – Costa Rica

Visit a wildlife wonderland. There are direct flights to San Jose, making Costa Rica perfect for an accessible wildlife and nature viewing itinerary for holidays of nine nights or even more. Options include the Arenal volcano region, Manuel Antonio National Park as well as many other excursions.

October – Israel

Tel Aviv, Eilat and more are on offer. Israel offers an impressive choice of accessible destinations, whether it be relaxing by a beach in Tel Aviv or Eilat, to touring any number of historic cities. Whatever you choose, this country is perfect for culture vultures.

November – Dubai

There are many reasons to visit Dubai not least of which are the sandy beaches, the hot year round climate, the great shopping and exciting theme parks and the excellent selection of direct daily flights.

December and January – Lanzarote

Part of the Canary Islands situated in the Atlantic, Lanzarote offers a wide range of accessible accommodation for all ages and budgets. From self-catering bungalows to five-star all-inclusive resorts. It is hot all year round, but not scorching this late in the year. Still, it is a great destination to escape a British winter.

CAN BE DONE (tel: 020 8907 2400), the UK’s longest established tour operator specialising in holidays for disabled travellers, was set up in 1985 on the core belief that everyone deserves a holiday and that travellers with impaired mobility and health issues should not be restricted in their travel ambitions.
