This week I went to Woodford Medical Clinic near the world famous Harley Street in London to try radio frequency skin tightening — something that Kim Kardashian famously filmed being done on her tummy after having her second child, Saint.
The Radio Frequency Skin Tightening Lift-Shape is a revolutionary treatment used to lift, firm, re-model and contour key areas of the face.
It is perfect for those who feel their face has become lax or droopy in areas, which is something that has been bothering me as I wake up most mornings with a crease around my mouth from sleeping the side of my face.
The treatment improves the appearance of skin texture and helps remove wrinkles and scarring.
It also works on the body, reducing fat, delivering body contouring, improving cellulite, stretch marks and post pregnancy scars. Kim has had it all over, publicly applauding it and claiming to have “done these treatments on my neck, hands and stomach”.
I haven’t had any children and while I would love to reduce fat and contour my body, I really ought to do that in the gym so I went along for the face treatment.
The first part of the treatment works deep into your skin with immediate results. It delivers radio wave energy that passes harmlessly through the skin to gradually heat the tissue. The existing collagen fibre is altered producing collagen tightening and remodelling, leading to skin looking noticeably younger. Essentially the area treated feels hot whilst the radiofrequency does its work and I have to say it was very relaxing.
Kerys at Woodford Medical did one half of my face and neck before the other, but stopped between the two and let me look in the mirror. I was amazed. You could clearly see that the right side of my face was lifted and firmer.
The next part was, I have to admit, slightly torturous. Tiny little needles scratch the skin while emitting heat, a lot of heat.
This wasn’t so bad along the bottom of my face and over my forehead, it was slightly bad across my neck and then around my eyes was a struggle! The instrument is held in place for three seconds at a time, so I took a deep breath and counted to three over and over.
Afterwards I was quite red, but with pale and sensitive skin I wasn’t surprised and it went down in a couple of hours. This part of the treatment works on the surface of the skin and effects can take a day or two to show.
Over the last couple of days I have to admit how vain I have been! Every time I pass a mirror and have a moment to look I examine how firm and lifted my face was. This is how I looked when I was 22 and I don’t half miss it!
The treatment isn’t cheap, £150 for a session and for a course of six, its £695, but I can’t recommend it enough. Especially because it is non-surgical and non-invasive and I fully support anything that discourages use of a knife or needle.
