I tried a skin tightening treatment loved by Kim Kardashian West

This week I went to Harley Street in London to try radiofrequency facial for skin tightening — something that Kim Kardashian famously filmed having done across her stomach after having her second child, Saint.

radio frequency skin

Radiofrequency facial for skin tightening

This treatment can tighten skin around the jowls, neck, face, upper arms and stomach. When used on the face, a radiofrequency facial can lift, firm, re-model and contour.

It is perfect for those who feel their face has become lax or droopy in areas, which is something that has been bothering me as I wake up most mornings with a crease around my mouth from sleeping the side of my face.

The treatment improves the appearance of skin texture and helps remove wrinkles and scarring.

It also works on the body, reducing fat, delivering body contouring, improving cellulite, stretch marks and post pregnancy scars. Kim has had it all over, publicly applauding it and claiming to have “done these treatments on my neck, hands and stomach”.

I haven’t had any children and while I would love to reduce fat and contour my body, I really ought to do that in the gym so I went along for the face treatment.

Does radiofrequency skin tightening hurt?

The first part of the treatment works deep into your skin with immediate results. It delivers radio wave energy that passes harmlessly through the skin to gradually heat the tissue. The existing collagen fibre is altered producing collagen tightening and remodelling, leading to skin looking noticeably younger. Essentially the area treated feels hot whilst the radiofrequency does its work and I have to say it was very relaxing.

Kerys at Woodford Medical did one half of my face and neck before the other but stopped between the two and let me look in the mirror. I was amazed at the before and after effect on my face. You could clearly see that the right side of my face was lifted and firmer.

The next part was, I have to admit, slightly torturous. Tiny little needles scratch the skin while emitting heat, a lot of heat.

This wasn’t so bad along the bottom of my face and over my forehead, it was slightly bad across my neck and then around my eyes was a struggle! The instrument is held in place for three seconds at a time, so I took a deep breath and counted to three over and over.

Afterwards I was quite red, but with pale and sensitive skin I wasn’t surprised and it went down in a couple of hours. This part of the treatment works on the surface of the skin and effects can take a day or two to show.

Radiofrequency skin tightening review and cost

Over the last couple of days I have to admit how vain I have been! Every time I pass a mirror and have a moment to look I examine how firm and lifted my face was. This is how I looked when I was 22 and I don’t half miss it!

The treatment isn’t cheap, £150 for a session and for a course of six, its £695, but I can’t recommend it enough. Especially because it is non-surgical and non-invasive and I fully support anything that discourages use of a knife or needle.

Yes I don’t think I could go under the knife either. Looks like a great non-invasive treatment.

It really was! I had considered a peel but this has no after effect like they do x

Oh gosh as much as I’d like to contour my face and get rid of some stretch marks not sure I could handle any pain ha!

If I had known it would feel like that I would have been nervous, but it was over so quickly it didn’t really matter.

It’s good that the treatment was worth the little bit of pain, I’ve never really had anything like this done before x

It was my first time so I had no idea what to expect, but yes definitely worth it x

I’ve always been curious about these types of treatments. I don’t really need my face tightening nor my body. But I am interested in getting rid of some stubborn fat on my waist. I workout, I’m in great shape but as a woman gets older this can happen and I don’t like it! Thanks for posting this review, well worth the read. 🙂

You’re so welcome and you’re very lucky! I’m definitely noticing my face changing as I get older x

It sounds like you’ve had a great result from it! I wouldn’t go under the knife either so this sounds great.

I would certainly never go under the knife for beauty – far too chicken for that! Looks like an interesting piece of kit and nice to know it works 🙂 Sim x

Gosh that isn’t cheap but if it works and someone can afford it, it’s defijotely worth it rather than invasive surgery

Haven’t come across this before. No it’s not cheap but at least you feel like it’s working.

I love the idea of this and your skin looks great! It definitely appeals to me – I could never go for a real face lift, though – that would make me squeamish!

I completely agree they freak me out!

For that price I’m glad you got good results. Not sure I could put myself though the pain though!

  11. March 22, 2018 / 8:19 pm

Omg I never heard of this magical treatment but I would be curious to check it out

  12. March 22, 2018 / 9:48 pm

I don’t think this is the kind of thing I would personally go for, particularly with a price tag that I would cry over and just ruin my face some more. But, that said, I do like a non evasive beauty treatment (albeit still painful), and is a great alternative to not going under the knife.

Oh I would definitely recommend this one! It’s funny you say that because last night I was watching a show on Netflix about brides who get loads of surgery done before the wedding, and when they get married is the first time the husband sees what they look like!

This sounds interesting, I’ve been toying with the idea of a treatment like this for a while now so I might try it. Do you think it’s worth doing it once though or is it something you would need to keep doing to see consistent results?

I think it is worth doing more than one for long term results. If you only want to have one then get it the day before a big event!

As I get older I love learning about new treatment to give my face an extra lift and push that it needs without surgery and this looks like something that is totally great to do even though it is slightly expensive.

I think everyone is looking for ways to look and feel younger. Radiofrequency is something I am not too familiar with but would love to learn more of. It seems like a great way that is non invasive.
