Meghan Markle’s face yoga: what is it and how do you do it

Since the world heard about Meghan Markle dating a British royal, everyone wanted to know everything there is about the actress-turned-princess. When it comes to her flawless beauty routine she has said she follows Danielle Collins face yoga.

Ms Markle says she highly recommends Face Yoga: “I regularly do facial exercises, I swear it works, as silly as you may feel. On the days I do it, my cheekbones and jawline are waaaay more sculpted.”

Since then the trend has taken off all around the world. Danielle, a Face Yoga expert, has created the Danielle Collins Face Yoga Method which features key facial exercises and skin massage which work all three layers of your skin.

Danielle says: “By working all these layers correctly, it will increase the blood circulation, allowing more oxygen and more nourishment to reach the cells of the skin. The result is a clear, healthy complexion with a beautiful glow which has less toxins and has a better ability to absorb moisture.”

Take a cue from Meghan and do these facial exercises to strengthen muscles attached to the skin, improve lymph flow and relax lines caused by holding tension in the face for long periods of time.

Danielle also recommends her massage techniques and says: “Face massage combined with the face exercises will increase the collagen and elastin, the natural plumping agents which will mean a firmer and healthier complexion.

“You can do anything from two to 20minutes a day, depending on your schedule but the key is to keep it up regularly. Doing face yoga daily means you will strengthen and lift your face muscles, boost collagen and elastin and ease tension from the face.”

  1. The Owl

Make a big C-shape with your thumb and index fingers. Place your index finger just above and parallel to your eyebrows and your thumbs on your cheeks. Start to pull down with the index fingers while trying to raise your eyebrows and making the eyes wide. Hold for two seconds, relax and repeat again. Now do three more times. Then hold this position for ten seconds. This will firm up the forehead, reducing lines and wrinkles.

  1. Circle the Eyes

First place your middle fingers at the beginning of your eyebrows. Start to gently tap around your eyes following the top of your eyebrow and then continue under your eye just at the top of your cheekbones. Then continue to the inside corners of your eye. Then repeat, going in the opposite direction, making little tapping motions. This is great for reducing eye wrinkles, boosting circulation and relaxing the muscles. Then with your index fingers very gently stroke just under your eyes from the nose outwards four times to warm up and relax the eye area. This helps to reduce bags and puffiness under the eyes by removing toxins and increasing blood flow and oxygen to the area.

  1. Swan neck

Begin looking straight ahead with your chin level. Turn your head to the right so that it is even with your right shoulder and then tilt your head backwards. Hold for six to eight seconds.

Return your head to the forward position with your chin level. Turn your head to the left, even with your left shoulder. Tilt your head back and hold for six to eight seconds. Repeat up to three times. This lifts and tones the neck muscles, therefore firming lines and wrinkles on the side of the neck and face.

  1. Giraffe

Looking straight ahead place your finger tips on the top of your neck and lightly stroke the skin down as you tilt your head back. Bring your head back down and repeat twice more. Then jut your lower lip out as far as possible, place your fingers on your collarbone and point your chin upwards, pulling the corners of your mouth down. Hold for 4 deep breaths. This releases neck tension, tones and lift the neck area.

I’ve never heard of face yoga before but it sounds intriguing. And the exercises don’t seem difficult to do at all. I should probably start something like this as I’m now 40!

I’ve seen a few different articles about face yoga but never seen anything with how to tips and demonstrations so this post is perfect! I’ve always wanted to give it a go so maybe this is a sign! Saving this for later when I need the step by step haha

Face yoga? Is that really a thing?? Don’t laugh, but I actually just tried all these out whilst reading your post. Haha! I guess if yoga works on our bodies, why not on our faces right?

I know I was surprised too! But apparently yogis and celebs have been doing it for years!

I feel like I am ahead of the trend for once – as a yoga teacher I have been doing exercises like this for years.I find it helps me. It’s amazing how much tension we carry in or face without even realising – the jaw and forehead for example.

I have terrible lines starting on my forehead so definitely need to give this a try. I’m expecting Meghan style results lol!

I’ve never heard of this before, but I’m intrigued. My skin has gone haywire since having children, so this may be the answer I’ve been looking for. Some of the comments seem to rate it as well… no harm in giving it a try I guess!

Definitely! I only had one treatment, but I can imagine if you have a few it makes a huuuuuge difference.

I need to try doing this. I’m sure I read that Elle McPherson does it too. Looks like it’d be a great way of relieving some tension and stress at the end of the day

I’m thinking of buying a book about face yoga called ‘Facelift without surgery’ from faceyogaexercises.com . The author’s name is Wendy Wilken Do you know anything about this book or the author and is it worth buying?

I’m afraid I have no idea! But I once knew a woman who did exercises on her neck and her boobs lifted – so I do think facial exercises can have a big effect xx
